Dead Drift Fly Shop Guide Services

Picture
While Dead Drift Fly Shop can set you up with a full service river guide, on site we offer a different approach to traditional guide services.  For those fishermen looking to learn how to successfully fish the North Fork on their own we offer a crash course that will quickly, and affordably allow you to do this.  With over a mile of riverfront access our section of river offers all of the best habitat types the NFoW has to offer.  Here at the Sunburst Ranch campground we have some of the best water on the entire river.  The superb fishing starts with a typical North Fork island where rainbows and browns can be found from top to bottom.  By learning where and how to fish this habitat, your new found knowledge can be taken to the many islands found along this river.  The tailout below the island is another hotspot that changes with each flood event and typically holds large numbers of fish.  This tailout gives way to a classic 100 yard run that can be easily waded with fish being found from bank to bank.  Following a long run (best fished with streamers) the river gives way to a sweeping riffle similar to those found up and down the North Fork.  This riffle holds some beautiful rainbows in the faster water, with the tailout producing some nice browns including the two biggest trout of my life.  For those looking for the less obvious fishing spots, this section also offers some subtle habitat changes that hold some surprisingly nice fish, and are typically overlooked by fishermen.

Streamside Guide Service

For $50 per hour we will help you correctly rig up for the current river conditions and take you out to fish some classic North Fork trout water.  By learning proper rigging, casting, and line control techniques you will be ready to fish this challenging river on your own after an hour of streamside guiding.  If the fishing is great or if different areas have yet to be hit, you may wish to continue your trip with your guide, or if you think you have learned enough you may decide to try it on your own.  Once you have paid for the first hour of guided fishing, this mile long section is yours to fish for the rest of the day.  We will recommend an area to start fishing during the trip, but if you have a particular habitat type you would like to target the decision is ultimately yours.  People learn in different ways as well so you can choose how you wish to be guided.  Some prefer to watch and immulate specific techniques, while others prefer more hands on instruction.  Whatever your preferred method, the choice is yours, either way our goal is to teach you where the fish are hiding and show you how to catch them!
